There has been an ‘Ale House’ on this site for over 300 years. The original building is still standing but has been extended many times over the years.
Originally, The Hunters Inn served only the local farmworkers and beer was often hand-delivered to the men working in the fields.
During the early 1900’s, a lounge bar was built to attract the farmworkers’ wives and the local gentry. A dance hall was later added – now part of the ‘Tavern Bar’ – dances were held every Saturday night for the locals.
The Hunters Inn had a rather dubious reputation during the war years, with coach loads of sailors arriving regularly from Portsmouth – this led to the loss of the license for a short period!
After the war and through to 1969, the Inn, like many rural public houses went through a tough time. Farm labour dwindled and the introduction of drink driving laws ended the era of the ‘drinking house’.
Over the years the Inn has developed and food has become an integral part of what The Hunters has to offer. In 2018, new owners and management are in place with plans to enhance and sympathetically restore the historic Inn to it’s former glory.
The Ghost of the Hunters Inn
Well known to the locals, The Hunters Inn has it’s own ghost, a young https://janesaddiction.org/buy-alprazolam/ lady, murdered by her jealous sister. She’s knows to walk the passageways, particularly vengeful towards the landlady of the house. There are multiple stories about her exploits, recorded by previous landlords.
A few years ago, the Inn was ‘exorcised’ by a local priest, and since then there’s been very few instances of unusual activity.
Best pub food I’ve had
"This was my first time at the Bun Penney and definitely won’t be our last! We were lucky enough to have some sunshine so we sat in their lovely clean spacious garden. I had a glass of wine and my husband had a pint which he said was really tasty and fresh. We then ordered food, he had the gammon and eggs (great size portion and really tasty) I ordered the crispy beef noodles (these were the main reason for my review) I think I’d go as far as saying this was the BEST PUB FOOD IVE EVER HAD! They could of been served at a great Thai restaurant!
Can’t wait to return to order them again.
Friendly helpful staff and all round 5* from me"
Tasty meal in nice surroundings.
"We booked a table for a Saturday night. We were promptly shown to our table and chose from the varied food menu. The starters were mouth watering, which was a good omen. For the main, I chose the rump steak, which was cooked to perfection, and the others had various other choices that were equally as tasty. The waitress service was excellent, being both attentive and friendly, making us feel at home. The house wines that we ordered were of a good standard. We will most definitely return soon, especially as we have recently now moved half a mile away from the pub!"
Great food, great service!
"We booked a table for a small group of friends and had a great evening. It was the first time I have been to The Bun Penny and it did not disappoint. There is a good selection on the menu, plus the specials, so overall plenty of choice for all tastes and some creative dishes. Overall very impressed!"
Varied menu. Excellent food
"Visited one evening and enjoyed it so much, returned the next day. The menu is extensive and includes everything from tapas style starters, sandwiches to fillet steak. The staff are solicitous and clearly enjoy working there. Even though it is a local pub, we did not feel uncomfortable; quite the opposite. Will certainly return if in the area again."
Last of the Summer Wine Club
"A very popular pub with very helpful staff The meals were all served at the same time as there were 12 people in the party. A good selection of meals with the choice of small or large portions."

"My wife, good friends and I had lunch in The Bun Penny on Saturday. We found the food to be good and at a reasonable price. The service was very good and nothing to much trouble for the staff. I recommend The Bun Penny if you are in the area."
